Program Age Levels
Girl Scouting is open to all girls, everywhere, ages 5-17 or in grades
K-12. The Girl Scout program can change the way girls see
the world and their place in it. Girls learn the importance
of personal responsibility, the value of goal-setting, the
spirit of teamwork, and the thrill of accomplishment. A
Girl Scout can be a member of a troop that meets in your
community under the leadership of adult volunteers or she
can be a Juliette following the Girl Scout program under
the care of a parent or guardian.
To locate a troop/group near you, call 1-800-734-4541 or
click here for an interest form. All Girl Scouts make
the Girl Scout Promise and try to live by the Girl Scout
Law.
There are four program levels for girls in Girl Scouting:
Daisy Girl Scouts are our youngest girls,
5-6 years old or in kindergarten. "Daisy" was the nickname
of Girl Scout founder Juliette Gordon Low. Girls learn to
work in small groups and begin to develop good citizenship,
a sense of personal worth, awareness of others, personal
responsibility, and an awareness of the world. When learning
about the Girl Scout Promise and Law, girls may receive
a Promise Center and Daisy Learning Petal Patches. Daisy
Girl Scouts do not participate in fundraising activities.
Brownie Girl Scouts are 6-8 years old
or enrolled in school grades 1-3. Brownies enjoy new opportunities,
participate in group activities, and may earn Try-It Patches.
They learn to help make decisions, plan, and solve problems
in a "Brownie Ring." Brownies learn about "Kapers,"
how to help others, and participate in service projects.
Junior Girl Scouts are our in-between
girls ages 8-11 or enrolled in school grades 3-6. Juniors
may earn proficiency awards either on their own or with
a group as they develop and participate in more complex
activities. Other awards include the Junior Aide Patch,
Bronze Award, and Bridge to Girls 11-17. Girls begin to
plan and budget for extended trips, enhanced skill-building
activities, and more!
Girls 11-17 – There are flexible membership
opportunities for girls who are 11-17 years old or enrolled
in school grades 6-12. Girls may join Cadette or Senior
troops, become a Juliette, or they may prefer the Studio
2B experience. Girls may work on a variety of awards and
recognitions designed with additional challenges. Additional
emphasis is placed on service to others and includes working
on service bars or exploring careers. Girls may work on
Interest Project patches or charms, as well as the Girl
Scout Silver and Girl Scout Gold Awards. The Destinations
program offers girls a chance for high adventure in new
places!
Adult Girl Scouts
Girl Scouts provides adults over age 17 the opportunity to continue their career in Girl Scouting or join for the first time. Adults have just as much fun as the girls when they are a part of the Girl Scout family. Adult Girl Scouts serve as role models for all girls, attend training in a variety of fields: leadership, administrative, outdoors, and more, and travel to national and international events. They share knowledge and skills, network with other adults with similar interests, gain marketable skills, and serve in leadership capacities mentoring girls. Adult Girl Scouts are eligible for outstanding service honors.
