Each year the Cahaba Council hosts two fundraising events, the Women of Distinction Luncheon and the Fishing Tournament benefiting the Girl Scouts.
Women of Distinction Luncheon
Started in 1993, the Women of Distinction Luncheon is a unique opportunity to recognize and celebrate women who have made special contributions to their community through civic, church, academic, or professional involvement. The Girl Scouts of Cahaba Council invites you to nominate an extraordinary woman to be considered for this award. Nominees should have a personal record of community involvement, successful career, and be a positive role model for past, current, and future Girl Scouts.
Each year the Cahaba Council also presents the Mildred Bell Johnson Award, which honors the memory of a beloved Girl Scout whose achievements attained through a lifelong association with the Girl Scouts have had far-reaching impact. The late Mildred Bell Johnson was greatly responsible for introducing Girl Scouting to the African-American community in the Birmingham area. The recipient of this distinguished award will be an outstanding woman who embodies unselfish leadership and commitment, exemplifying the ideals of Girl Scouting, and has prior or current affiliation with this organization.
Please use the nomination form and include as much information about your nominee as possible. The selection committee will base their decisions on the information you provide. Nominations should be postmarked November 16, 2007. Click here for a Nomination Form. A selection committee comprised of
community leaders and volunteers selects the honorees. Click
here for a list of past years' recipients.
SAVE THE DATE! Next year's event is scheduled for Friday, March 14, 2008 at The Harbert Center in downtown Birmingham.
Proceeds from the Women of Distinction Luncheon directly support the Girl Scouts’ mission to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.
Fishing Tournament
Begun in 2003, the Fishing Tournament is a team-based event benefiting the
Cahaba Council. Fishing Tournament sponsors are entitled
to a corporate boat, signage, a team of two anglers, and
invitations to the Captain's Party. Other sponsorship levels
are available. The activities are centered on Lake Alice
at the Kanawahala Program Center (KPC) near Chelsea, Alabama.
Please contact the Special Events office
for details about either of these events.
